N54 Viv Turbo Review

N54 Viv Turbo Review

Here are some great videos I made to explain 2 major problems with the n54 Viv 17t and n54 Viv 19t turbos.

The Viv TDO4 17t and 19t turbos both need a 14mm wide collar, a 14mm wide spacer, and a dual oil port machined from copper bar thrust bearing with 1.4mm oil holes.  The Viv version 1 had oem size thrust collar and thrust spacer which are too small to be durable over 22 psi. The later Viv models have the upgraded collar and spacer but the thrust bearing oil feed holes are too small and reduce cooling and lubrication and cause pre-mature failure.

The 2nd major issue is the compressor housing oring Viv uses is too thin and does not seal properly. Not all Viv rebuild kits are the same, there is v1, v2, v3, and v4. Viv v1 seemed to have TDO4 journal bearings and seals. I think Viv v2, v3, and v4 take special tdo3 bearings with a 7mm inside diameter. Also Viv v1 had the dowel pin on the left for the thrust bearing but changed the pin to the right in which we have drilled the thrust bearing to fit all 4 Viv versions. Here is a list of  Viv turbo rebuild kit parts I put together to make the N54 Viv turbos reliable.
